Weekly Update

Tuesday, August 28, 2012

With Joel and Bonnie still enjoying the PACNW the update was a little slow getting out. Last weekend was a great time for riding, we had folks going out in all directions. Here are the brief recaps.

Kevin's Saturday Report
What a nice ride today. We left Sheetz at 9:30 and headed down Rt.96. It was overcast and 'cool', the roads were dry and traffic light. Took Brogden road from Smithfield to Rt. 581 to Rt. 70 to Goldsboro and Performance East. They have 2 Cross Country tours, 1 Cross Country (Red with Black, pipes, forks, crash bars) I liked it, not flashy, but very functional. After I drooled over the bikes I got my Oil and Filter and rode back up 70 for a couple miles to Rt. 581 north. I have never ridden this road before but it's a nice road, not much traffic, nice sweeping turns, lots of farms, just a nice 'cruising'road.
Lunch stop was in Spring Hope at Smith's? Restaurant and grill for lunch, nothing fancy, Philly cheese steak and curly fries was tasty. From Spring Hope it was up Rt. 581 to Louisburg, ran into a fine mist of rain for a couple miles, but it was done by the time I got to Louisburg.

Cindy and Mike Hodges Reported
This morning Mike and I rode through the backroads between Wendell, Knightdale, skirting around Garner and Clayton to come out on 42 - went to Appleby's at 40/42 in Fuquay to support the Neuse River chapter of CBA who were having a pancake breakfast.

Frank's Sunday Ride Report
We met at K-Mart a little early due to calendar confusion... hung around in the shade and passed some jokes and riding memories. At the appointed hour, we were off in search of "cue". No "new roads" to report... just a different twist on old stand-by's. Roughly 1.5 hours after we left K-Mart, we arrived at "Big Al's". (yes yes I know.... it's only 11 miles). We were greeted by the GrillMaster himself, and he fetched some fresh pork skins for us, while we waited for lunch. Over all good grub, and a candidate for future bike nights, and/or informal gatherings.
Big Al informed us of a new event coming soon... the Inaugural Wake Forest Bike Fest. Sept 29-30. We thanked Al for the grub, and the information. Tom G headed for home, while the rest of us headed north to WF for ice cream. The owner of Lumpy's also told us about the upcoming WFBF... sounds like a winner... even though it IS the week following the downtown Raleigh "Ray-Fest". All in all a great day to ride... these "short" Sunday late lunch ride seem to popular.

Ride safe... ride often
