Weekly Update

Well, Bryson City SCRC Fall Gathering has come and gone and all I can say is, WOW, what a great weekend filled with friends, old and new, and roads, twisty and challenging. If you haven’t read it yet, see Frank's ride synopsis. I have posted pics on Facebook and Bonnie will try to add the pics to the website. We are thinking of posting the most recent ride pics to the web site for easy viewing and then archiving them.

As per Frank's email, we, Frank, Becky, Kevin, Dorene, Bonnie, and myself, discussed a summer ride. I mentioned MI earlier, as a suggestion. We talked about long destinations vs shorter ones with day rides. Frank suggested a ride to PA with day rides out of a base. This has the advantage of keeping gear in a room and bailing on some rides, if you are tired. I wouldn't mind a PA tour, including Roadside America, the Red Caboose Motel, and some good Amish cooking (shoo fly pie).

We have riders of varying experience and stamina. While I have done 500 mile weeks, many have not, and a 1500 mile each way ride is fun for some, it is challenging for others, and doesn't allow bail out or down days, if you get overwhelmed.

MI will require seven days of hard riding to make the 2000 mile loop to Sault Ste Marie. Thunder Bay, at 1500 miles each way, is out of range for a one week trip.

Let’s hear your thoughts.

Ride safe and ride often,
Joel "Doc" Kann

This last week:

Bike night From Alain: I met Rick, his pretty and new rider daughter who came with her new toy, a beautiful brand new Honda CBR 250. We had a short ride together on 98 at the end before we went our own way.

Fall Gathering Frank, Becky, Bonnie, Kevin, Dorene joined Dave Tart from JCC and dozens of other SCRC folk in Bryson City for 3 days of laughter, friendship and fun. Happy birthday, again, David Miller and Steve Burton ("the twins"). My favorite, besides the Hellbender/Dragon/BRP... the Apple cobbler home cooked in a Dutch Oven. YUMMMM. See Frank's email for more detail.

MRF Meeting of the Minds from Mike H. Cindy and I spent the weekend at the MRF Meeting of the Minds with about 350 of our friends, old and new!! Was a good conference, folks learned a lot, socialized a lot and learned even more and generally had a great time. Showed those folks who traveled here what Southern Hospitality was all about, and got a lot of our local folks fired up and ready to go to Ohio next year.
