Weekly Update

Tuesday update again. I was enthralled watching Gettysburg late last night. Finally went to bed at 11 when Bonnie ruined it by giving away the ending. SPOILER ALERT - the Union wins.

Doing a little last minute work on the bike (yeah, I know, Frank) getting ready for a trip down to Charleston, to see where this whole ruckus began. We will be shoving off on Saturday, but will be at bike night on Friday. I hope to meet some of our new members there.

Unfortunately, this means we will miss Saturday's ride to Saxapahaw. If you can go, don't miss it. It’s a nice ride out through the countryside. One of my favorite destinations in NC.

Now down to the monthly FO rant. Just to second what Frank has said and thinking of our meeting at the Saxapahaw deli, I agreed to take on the FO job to keep the chapter going with the understanding that I may not be available to lead a lot of rides. It was understood that other folks would step up and plan or lead, because, after all, we are a riding club. Our purpose is to get together and share our love of riding.

If you have been with the club for a while, take a deep breath and agree to lead a ride. Start by picking a destination or a favorite road. Plot it out. Pick a day and a meet up place and KSU time and post it. Review the road rules and hand signals. If you have qualms about leading, contact one of the officers (me, Frank, Kevin) and we can help you. Don’t worry about getting lost or "impromptu" detours. (Ask Frank, I do it all of the time. Sometimes we discover a better ride by error).

Rides can be short (100-300 miles) in a day or longer (500+) in a few days. We HAVE done a few trips to Williamsburg in a day (400 miles) and Topsail (300 miles).

The point is, get involved. This should be a participation club and not a touring agency. I don't expect 100% (that would be about 60 active riders), but 5-8 active members can make a difference. Let me hear from you.

And, oh yes. Everyone have a safe and happy "Blow Things Up, But Not Your Fingers" Day.

Check out the Chapter Forum or the Yahoo group from time to time to keep updated on current events and club news.

If you see an event you want to attend, and you think it might be fun to attend said event, with fellow riders... Please post something on either Yahoo, or Delphi forums. If I see it in time, I'll cross post on the other. The forums are great ways for YOU... to get to know your fellow members, and with luck, get someone to ride along.
