Weekly Update

Monday, March 3, 2014

I know it is hard to believe with temperatures in the teens tonight and ice on the roads, but it IS March and Spring weather IS coming. Robins are back and buds on the trees.

It is time to step up the riding season.

See below for a host of SCRC and non-SCRC rides scheduled for the next few months.

1) Greater Raleigh is planning an extended weekend ride up and around Little Switzerland for the last weekend in May (AFTER Memorial day). I have the time off. We will begin selecting a place to stay and pick out routes. Little Switzerland is a great spot in the Blue Ridge with heart stopping, zippy twisties up and down the mountains. Bonnie and I did this loop with the Tarheel Minis a couple of years ago and had our hearts in our throats all the way around. One car left its bumper on the road. I hope many of you will join us.

2) We are also planning a ride out for the SCRC National Rally in September. We will take two days out and two back for the 725 mile trip to Lexington, for a long week of great bluegrass country riding. Bonnie and I have already registered and reserved a room. See below for details.

3) Patriot run at Ft. Bragg on Saturday April 5. I am considering adding this as a chapter ride. It will be an early departure, with registration at 8 am and KSU at 10 am. More details to follow.

Please add some other rides. Frank and I will be adding some shorter day rides in the weeks to come. Step up, jump in, get your feet wet. Just do it.

Ride safe,
Joel "Doc" Kann

This last week

No bike night last week.

Sunday March 2 Ride to Saxapahaw. Frank, Mike, and Cindy Hodges took advantage of the one day of spring to ride out to Saxapahaw. Not quite 200 miles... round-about (REAL ROUND-ABOUT) route to and from... glorious sunshine, warm day... lots of bikes out on the road 5-6 hawks... maybe an eagle... 3 deer, assorted road kill... and a partridge in a pear tree. Great day to ride... and the food was fantastic.

Bonnie and I rode around Apex and Cary looking at Open Houses.
