This weeks events

Wednesday Joel and I took a ride to Gerbings repair facility in Greensboro. I could have taken it to the Post Office, but the day was bright, and dry... and I needed a break from my on going terra-modification projects. I took Mike H's gear with me as well. Joel picked up a new remote connection. Lunch at Saxapahaw (because why not?) Man that place is as hopping on a mid day, mid afternoon, as a week end.

Sunday The 14th annual SCRC/CMA bike blessing at Lake Wheeler I hung around Wilsonville a while but had no takers on the ride. I knew a couple of the riders were having bike issues so I wasn't concerned. This wasn't the first time I posted a ride, and no one showed, and it won't be the last. Given I had over one hour to get there, and I figured one taking that much time... I decided to hit some new (to me) roads. I was able to convert the (planned) 48 miles /1 hour ride into a 74 mile hour and a half ride. I call THAT success.

Folks from CMA, and Crossroads ministry were there as were folks from Five Points, Jordan Lake, Johnston County,Cape Fear, Greater Raleigh, and even one rider from Port City. CMA threw some burgers and hot dogs on the grill, and a good time was had by all

Anyone interested in taking on a chapter "leadership role" (ie: Road Captain, Tail Gunner, Ride Leader, Safety Officer, Second Officer, or even First Officer)

If you want to step up go to www.southerncruisers.net/constitution.htm and read what SCRC national expects from officers (and members).

Then read the ride guidelines... www.southerncruisers.net/newriding.htm. They aren't "rules" but guides, but it does explain the role of ride leader better.

Finally, there is the "code of conduct": www.southerncruisers.net/coc.htm

"Road Captain/ride leader" is a good place to start... but you don't have to be a "Road Captain" to lead a ride. Just be willing to step up... You WILL miss a turn... and do a U-turn... everyone does... it's part of the "fun" and who knows... it could lead to a funny "road name".
