Occasionally, but not quite, WEEKLY UPDATE

Sunday, February 7, 2016

March is three weeks away. As it begins to warm up, we will have more rides, scheduled further in advance. This is a good time for YOU to let me know what/when you are wanting as far as chapter events. Week end trips? Week day rides? Beach rides? Mountains? Historic sites?

NC has a pretty wide variety of interesting places to visit, check out visitnc.com or unctv.org/content/north-carolina-weekend for ideas. To be honest, I'd prefer YOU taking the lead, and planning the event you would like to support, but I am willing to do so, if you are not.

Saturday, Frostbite, February 6 Joel was the only one joining me at Han-dee Hugo, we stood around a bit drinking hot cocca, and bs-ing as the sun rose higher, and warmed things up. As we both had heated gear, there was no chance of getting frost bite, on its namesake ride, so off we went. A nice easy loop through Wake, Johnston, and Harnett counties. We arrived at noon, and found a seat with Goldsboro, Panther Creek, and Cape Fear chapters. There were members from about 10 chapters, and I heard there were 65 members all together.

State officer Cricket, announced there will be a NC fall gathering this year at Two Rivers Lodge in Bryson City... dates TBA.

Anyone interested in taking on a chapter "leadership role" (ie: Road Captain, Tail Gunner, Ride Leader, Safety Officer, Second Officer, or even First Officer)

If you want to step up go to www.southerncruisers.net/constitution.htm and read what SCRC national expects from officers (and members).

Then read the ride guidelines... www.southerncruisers.net/newriding.htm. They aren't "rules" but guides, but it does explain the role of ride leader better.

Finally, there is the "code of conduct": www.southerncruisers.net/coc.htm

"Road Captain/ride leader" is a good place to start... but you don't have to be a "Road Captain" to lead a ride. Just be willing to step up... You WILL miss a turn... and do a U-turn... everyone does... it's part of the "fun" and who knows... it could lead to a funny "road name".
