Occasionally, but not quite, WEEKLY UPDATE

THROW-back Thursday... remembering the night we almost lost Larry Watson... Larry left bike night (Friday 3/10/06) at Char-Grill on Strickland, and never made it to the light one block east. He was T-boned by a young woman who was talking on her cell phone, and not looking.

Larry, his wife Lynn, and three daughters (now all young ladies) Tim and Denise Duncan, Roy and Charla Parker, Boop, and myself met at Char-Grill for a celebratory meal Knowing Larry is still here and well(ish) and able to be a part of his family. Tim reminded me that he was a member of SCRC when he had his near fatal wreck... so that's 2 wrecks in 15 years... still better than a lot of groups.

Saturday, Steve and I took advantage of Ray Price "butt-pickin' contest" and enjoyed some eastern NC style BBQ... truth be told, I am not a fan of boston butt... and prefer brisket... but still it takes all kinds.

Ride safe... Ride often

Anyone interested in taking on a chapter "leadership role" (ie: Road Captain, Tail Gunner, Ride Leader, Safety Officer, Second Officer, or even First Officer)

If you want to step up go to www.southerncruisers.net/constitution.htm and read what SCRC national expects from officers (and members).

Then read the ride guidelines... www.southerncruisers.net/newriding.htm. They aren't "rules" but guides, but it does explain the role of ride leader better.

Finally, there is the "code of conduct": www.southerncruisers.net/coc.htm

"Road Captain/ride leader" is a good place to start... but you don't have to be a "Road Captain" to lead a ride. Just be willing to step up... You WILL miss a turn... and do a U-turn... everyone does... it's part of the "fun" and who knows... it could lead to a funny "road name".
