Occasionally, but not quite, WEEKLY UPDATE

Sunday, March 6, 2016

Another false alarm weather forecast... What had been promised to be partly cloudy and low 60's, turned out to be a mostly cloudy, mid-50's day... but still it was a good day to ride.

Joel, Randy and Sue, and Steve met me at the Marathon, and after the usual jaw-jacking, we took off for Clarksville. Nothing out of the ordinary to report, we had a brief bio-break in Oxford, due to the cooler temps, then on to Clarksville. No sooner were we seated, than in strolls Mike H. bringing us to an even half dozen.

Service was slower than usual, but we took advantage of it, by cracking jokes, and lamenting the urbanization of Apex. Finally, we were fed, and rolling across the lake for a quick fuel stop. A mindless looping of south-side Virginia, and we made the Kerr Dam. Mike decided to hook up his heated gear at the stop sign, prompting Steve to suspect he had an issue so we all pulled over at the first place we could.

Another short BS session began and then we were off. One by one we each peeled off as we got closer to home... 160 miles plus or minus, and hopefully this will be the last cool weather ride for a while. Before long we will pray for this weather.

Ride safe... Ride often

Anyone interested in taking on a chapter "leadership role" (ie: Road Captain, Tail Gunner, Ride Leader, Safety Officer, Second Officer, or even First Officer)

If you want to step up go to www.southerncruisers.net/constitution.htm and read what SCRC national expects from officers (and members).

Then read the ride guidelines... www.southerncruisers.net/newriding.htm. They aren't "rules" but guides, but it does explain the role of ride leader better.

Finally, there is the "code of conduct": www.southerncruisers.net/coc.htm

"Road Captain/ride leader" is a good place to start... but you don't have to be a "Road Captain" to lead a ride. Just be willing to step up... You WILL miss a turn... and do a U-turn... everyone does... it's part of the "fun" and who knows... it could lead to a funny "road name".
